How long does a newly hatched black swallowtail butterfly live? It is a bit chilly at night to release it and I may have to keep it inside for a week or so feeding it sugar water and offering it flowering fuschia and geranium plants. I wonder how long they normally live? I hope I can let it go in time for it to mate and reproduce...

The swallowtail should live at least a few weeks. If it isn't really cold and wet, it might be OK outside, otherwise you can feed it for a while inside then release it.
