Swallow tail wings crimpled

by Mel
(Manchester, CT)

My swallow tail has emerged, but its wings are still crumpled. Is there anything I can do to help open its wings. Otherwise I would not release it. I have sugar water and marigolds. It is not really drinking, only if I put the sugar water on my finger.

Karen says:
Sorry this is late - I just got back from vacation. It seems the swallowtail butterflies sometimes take a while for the wings to fully expand. Hopefully they did and your swallowtail is released.
