Making food for Black Swallowtail butterly

by Swede37
(Winnipeg, Manitoba)

Our Black Swallowtail emerged (yesterday/today) after being in it's chrysalis since August and we need to feed it something. It is March in Winnipeg and releasing it outside now will be certain death! I read you can mix 1 part sugar to 9 parts water & boil it to create butterfly food. Is it possible to do this with brown sugar? Will the ratios remain the same?

Karen says:
I am not sure whether you can use the brown sugar. I know Juicy Juice or Gaterade have also been used for butterfly nectar.
