Found Butterfly

by JDC
(western NY)

I found a monarch in the grass on my way to barn this AM. I got it on a leaf with a stick under its legs and put in the barn. It's really cold here now. I turned a light on in the area to warm it. About feeding it? I have frozen ice cubes of watermelon. Should I unthaw little slices an place near butterfly to eat?

Karen says:
Yes I would think you could try the watermelon. Let us know if the monarch eats this...it would give my readers another possibility for feeding butterflies. Other ideas are Juicy Juice or Gaterade (crumple white paper towel and saturate with juice then place on a dish).
